Written, recorded and released January 1970, in a span of just ten days, Instant Karma! was to become one of John Lennon’s most popular singles, reaching #5 in the UK and #2 in the US. Featuring George Harrison alongside bassist Klaus Voormann, drummer Alan White and keyboardist Billy Preston, it marked the first time any Beatle collaborated with legendary producer Phil Spector, who later that year worked on the band’s final album (Let It Be) and solo albums from John and George. Newly mixed audio. Artwork is a faithful reproduction of original UK sleeve.
"Alfredito 'Sabor' Linares is a globetrotting pianist, composer, bandleader, and producer from Lima, Peru with a long, prolific career in hot Latin music spanning more than half a century. Though Linares has come to recent international fame through his work with William 'Quantic' Holland, he was already quite popular and famous in his adopted countries of Colombia and Venezuela in the ‘70s and '80s during the salsa boom. However, his career began in Lima, backing timbalero Ñico Estrada at age 17 in 1961, and Alfredito's first notable recording as a sideman was a few years later on the now legendary El Combo de Pepe album for IEMPSA/Odeon.
Subsequently Linares would advance his career by recording two fabulous records under his own capable leadership as Alfredo Linares Y Su Sonora at the end of the decade for the MAG label. These releases capitalized on recent developments in New York Latin music, namely Latin jazz, boogaloo, descarga (jam session) and what would later be marketed as 'salsa' with roots in the Cuban guaguancó and guaracha genres. One can hear direct inspiration coming from Joe Cuba, Ricardo Ray, and Eddie Palmieri, especially on the first album, El Pito, and yet by the second record, there are plenty of original tunes as well. More importantly there is a 'swing' and assertiveness to the playing (and arrangements) that prove every bit as authentic, tough and danceable as their New York inspirations . . . .
That special 'swing' also emanated from Linares' ace backing band, which happened to be a talented stable of MAG studio musicians who all understood Cuban and jazz music: percussionists Mario Allison and Coco Lagos, bassist Joey di Roma, Kiko Fuentes, and Carlos Muñoz on lead vocals and Melcochita on coro (vocal chorus). According to Linares, the studio band was 'open-ended, some musicians came some days, others on other days -- Nilo Espinoza on saxophone, Betico Salas and Tito Chicoma on trumpets. Otto de Rojas played piano, and so did Charlie Palomares, who played vibraphone. Another good musician was guitarist Carlos Hayre.' Though the recordings were cut 'live in the studio' and many were basically composed on the spot, the intrinsic strength and maturity of the performances on Yo Traigo Boogaloo stand the test of time as one of Peru's most important contributions to tropical music across the decades, establishing Alfredito Linares as a master of the idiom and serving as a harbinger for great things to come for him in Colombia and Venezuela..." --Pablo E Yglesias DJ Bongohead of Peace & Rhythm

The sequel to last year's RSD edition of Blood on Black Wax. It's not a *true* sequel, however, as it works well on its own.
This RSD 2020 release includes 240 pages of sci-fi/fantasy soundtrack recaps, interviews, and full-color vinyl soundtrack artwork. This time out the focus is tighter ('60s to '90s). In a way it's even more accessible than the first book, with popular franchises including Star Trek, Star Wars, Mad Max, Batman, Ghostbusters, Blade Runner, Back to the Future, Superman, Planet of the Apes, Jurassic Park, E.T.....plus a decent amount of cult favorites.

Paris was the first city to really get behind my career as a solo artist. From the first time I played there in 2014 ‘til now, it's always had an extra spark of magic to it. It's always the stop I look forward to the most on my European tours as the audience comes with a very unique and kinetic energy, and because of this, so does the band. I had wanted to document this reciprocating fever between us and the crowd for some time now and saw our sold out show at the beautiful Cabaret Sauvage as the perfect time to do so. I also knew I needed to document a night with my new band, the OH MY GOD Band, which is made up of some of the most talented and tasteful musicians on the planet. And so here and now, in this recording, I have captured the best band I've ever played with as well as one of the best crowds I've ever played for - all together on a very sweaty night beneath a carnival tent in Paris. xo km

In November 1984, Paul Bellini rented a beatbox and started jamming in his basement with guitarist Rob Rowatt, bass player Gord Disley, and fellow York University alumni Scott Thompson. Their early recording sessions produced dozens of experimental songs with challenging lyrics and Mouth Congress was born.
Two years later, The Kids in the Hall’s Bruce McCulloch asked Mouth Congress to open for him at the Rivoli – a club where The Kids in the Hall performed regularly. Utilizing Brian Hiltz’s existing band I Want, they performed a memorable set and several months later decided to record a 7-song cassette entitled For People Only. The sessions occurred just five days before Thompson moved to New York City to begin writing the first season of The Kids in the Hall.
The band never got around to releasing the cassette in any official manner, but now, 32 years later, 3 tracks from For People Only are being made available for the first time by Captured Tracks. “Tactile”, Mouth Congress’s signature tune, is an ode to the sense of touch and a reminder that human contact is still our greatest pleasure. “Gonna Be A Man” is a love/hate song about masculinity.

'Marvin Pontiac was anonymously sent a 4 track tape recorder during the years he was held at Esmerelda State Mental Institution. This is what he did with it.' Coming to prominence during the no wave era as part of NYC's notorious Lounge Lizards and starring in Jim Jarmusch's film Down By Law, Lurie's quirky compositions under the Pontiac pseudonym have developed a legendary reputation among fans and critics alike. 'The first album released from the most sought-after label, bar none, among jazz collectors! Black Jazz was started by keyboardist/producer Gene Russell for Dick Schory's Ovation Records. Active only from 1971 to 1975, and reputed to be the first jazz label started by an African-American since Sunshine Records in 1921, Black Jazz sought to expand minds as well as hearts, releasing spiritual, socially conscious music that explored such burgeoning genres of the era as funk, soul jazz, and free jazz. Real Gone Music kicks off its Black Jazz reissue campaign with the very first record the label released, entitled, fittingly, New Direction, and performed by label founder Russell. Oft-bootlegged, with original copies commanding princely sums, New Direction, while a fairly straight-ahead piano trio outing, sets the tone for the entire label with its modal and soul jazz flourishes, and features such sidemen as double bassist Henry 'The Skipper' Franklin and drummer Steve Clover. Fuktronic is the brainchild of Jimmy Urine (Mindless Self Indulgence) and Serj Tankian (System Of A Down), who’ve made the ultimate electronic soundtrack for a one of a kind British gangster film. Urine said about the project: “Our dynamic is very chill, which is why we do this kind of stuff, especially because, with Fuktronic, it's electronic type soundtrack music, which we've both been doing a lot of on our own. Fuktronic is a 12-track journey; four instrumentals and eight tracks featuring original scripted and voice-acted dialogue that chronicle the trials and tribulations of a fresh-out-of-prison British gangster who hasn’t learned his lesson.”

This limited edition compilation LP was curated from the classic Sun Record Company catalog by participating Record Store Day stores, and marks the seventh installment of the 'Sun Records Curated by Record Store Day' series. Volume 7, Sunrise on the Blues, highlights some of the incredible blues artists in the Sun Records archive. While the iconic label is best known for launching the careers of superstars like Elvis and Johnny Cash, Sam Phillips' Sun Records initially started as a rhythm and blues label. The track list for this compilation was carefully curated by the hardworking people in record stores themselves. This Record Store Day 2020 exclusive release is limited to 4,000 copies worldwide.
