An interesting CD of the Duke Ellington Orchestra live on the air at two points in the band's history 1954 and 1962, showing their development. The first concert was from Basin Street, New York City, December 31, 1954 and the second was part of the Newport Jazz Festival at Freebody Park, Newport RI, July 8, 1962. On the latter concert the band is temporarily joined by the Newport All Stars and for two tracks Duke Ellington is replaced by Thelonious Monk on piano.
