Baker soared out of Gerry Mulligan's quartet like a rocket; in just 8 months, the trumpeter moved from obscurity to the major ranks in jazz. By the time he had formed his own quartet with Russ Freeman, he was singing for variety and had developed a significant L.A. club following. This classic all-vocal LP (with plenty of trumpet solos) features 14 great standards ("Time After Time," "My Funny Valentine," etc.); it is now on CD for the 1st time in it's original form with greatly improved sound.
